Ridgeway - Bernard S. "Bernie" Weier, age 91, of Ridgeway, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville. He was born on September 8, 1917 at St. Joseph Hospital in Dodgeville, a son of Nicholas and Frances (Brunker) Weier. Bernie married Betty Ballard on September 6, 1950 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ridgeway. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2008. In August, 1954, Bernard moved his family to the village of Ridgeway, where he lived out the rest of his life. He was employed for over 30 years by Collins & Hying. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved following all his Wisconsin teams, the Packers, the Brewers, the Badgers and Ridgeway Home Talent Baseball. Bernie will be remembered as a hard working man, who enjoyed keeping busy. He took pride in his mowing and tending his garden. He looked forward to the annual Weier reunion and fishing trips to Port Washington with boys, son-in-law and nephews.

Bernard is survived by his children, Michael Weier, of Portage, Kathryn (Dan) Fargo, of Blanchardville, Gene (Debra) Weier, of DeForest, Julie (Keith) Mallder, of Sun Prairie, and Richard Weier, of Ridgeway; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his daughter, Sarah, his sister, Frances McKernan, his brothers, Teddy, Charlie and Joe Weier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ridgeway. Father Peter Auer will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass on Wednesday at the church.
