Houston- Mary Lou Welch Alford, 85, died Wed., Dec. 1, 2004, at the Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. A native of Chickasaw County, she was born Mar. 16, 1919, to Gradion Smith Welch and Eva Lora Flanagan Welch. She was a merchant, retired from federal employment at the Fort Polk Military Base. She as a member of Thorn Church of God.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Thorn Church of God. Burial well be in Poplar Springs Cemetery at Vardaman with Southern Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangments.

Survivors include a son, Gaylon and wife, Katherine, of Starkville; four daughters, Theresa Huffman, Wanda Harrell and husband Eddie, and Eva Gayle Criddle and husband, David, all of Houston, and Rebecca Lyle of Austin, TX; a brother, Rex M. Welch and wife, Dell, of Berrien Springs, Mich.; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and
seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Raymond Alford, on Dec. 19, 1999; her parents and two brothers, James T. and Maurice E. Welch.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Martin, Sherman Alford, Jeff Laughlin, Jimmy Sanders, Dale Mooneyham, Ressell Moore and Jimmy "BoBo" Pettit.
