Leona L. Bollinger, 89, of Edgeley, ND, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Manor St Joseph in Edgeley.

Leona was born on March 16, 1923, on the family farm south of Kulm, ND, the daughter of Christ and Amelia (Ruff) Welk. She attended country school and worked as a housekeeper for area neighbors when she was young. Leona married Arthur Bollinger on February 23, 1945 in Kulm. While he was in the Navy, Leona worked as a waitress, along with Art's sister, Ida, in California until the spring of 1946. Leona and Arthur returned to live and farm on the Bollinger farmstead south of Edgeley. She was always a diligent worker on the farm tending her chickens, geese, & ducks, working in the garden and milking cows. She also took great pride in her work in the kitchen cooking large meals for the men on the farm, making homemade bread, baking goodies and canning her garden produce. In 1980 she started her career as a nurse's aide at Manor St Joseph and continued to work there until 2007. In 1991, they moved off the farm to Edgeley.

Leona is survived by her husband of 67 ½ years, Arthur Bollinger of Edgeley; son, Allen (Brenda) Bollinger of Edgeley; daughter-in-law, Michelle Bollinger of Edgeley; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Nick (Heidi) Bollinger and their children, Cashton and Jack, of Jamestown, Pat (Maria) Bollinger and their child, Rhylen, of Fergus Falls, MN, Jake (Jill) Bollinger of Fargo, Kali (Tanner) Kiecker and their children, Jozie and Emmy, of Edgeley, Claire Bollinger of Omaha, NE, Eric Bollinger of Edgeley, and Emily (Steve) Klym of Belfield, ND; one sister, Frieda Keller of Jamestown; and two brothers, Art Welk of Miller, SD and Ken (Marilyn) Welk of Mandan, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gene Bollinger; two sisters, Annetta Geisler and Nora Kinzler; and two brothers, Walter Welk and Norman Welk.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley.

Visitation: 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Interment: North Dakota Veteran Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
