Alice Welk died Aug. 8, 2012. Funeral mass was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Jason Signalness officiating. Interment followed at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
Alice Welk was born Aug.19, 1922, on the Welk farm southwest of Strasburg, where she lived for her first nine months. She was the daughter of Louis and Katherine (Mattern) Welk , the oldest of 10 siblings. Alice was very proud of her Lawrence Welk heritage and looked forward to his visits. After spending her childhood on the family farm, she attended Christie's Beauty School in Bismarck, working in Bismarck and Strasburg for several years.
Alice married Debert Keller July 3, 1945, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Krassna. Following their marriage, Debert and Alice lived and farmed northeast of Strasburg where they raised 10 children. Alice dedicated her life to her family and their well-being. She took great pride in her homemaking and cooking skills and always welcomed family and friends at a moment's notice to a home cooked meal. She was a renowned cook and baker, with children and grandchildren looking forward to her delicious baked goods.
Alice valued her family and her faith, belonging first to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, then to Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. It was a regular occurrence to have the parish priest visit for Sunday lunch. Alice enjoyed sewing and quilting and made a quilt for each of her children. She was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying and attending her children's and grandchildren's football and basketball games.
In the fall of 2005, Debert and Alice moved to Bismarck. Debert passed away May 23, 2006. Alice spent the following two summers on the farm, then lived at her home in Bismarck.
Grateful for her love, guidance and support are her children: Jane Young, Bakers-field, Calif., Jerry and Carolyn Keller, Horace, Richard Keller, Bismarck, Ken and Marion Keller, Chicago, Ill., Judy and Tom Fryslie, Center, Sue and Howard Sage, Bismarck, Allen Keller, Bismarck, Laura Keller, Phoenix, Ariz., and Kevin and Jackie Keller, Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; her siblings, Pius and Hilda Welk , Bismarck, Elmer Welk , Chicago, Larry and Bernie Welk , Aberdeen, S.D., Pete Welk , Phoenix, and Jenny and Jerry Randgaard, Chaska, Minn.; two brothersin-law and a sister-in-law, Edward F. and Shirley Keller, Bismarck, Bill Keller, Bismarck, and Eleanor Maloney, Appleton, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
