Antonia Filler Gutenkauf, 99, of Pierre, SD, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Pierre.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre from 2:00-4:00 pm. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Hertz Funeral Home in Harvey, ND from 5:00-7:00 pm, concluding with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose, ND. Interment will be at a later date at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

Antonia Filler Gutenkauf was born on October 14, 1911 in Orrin, ND to Balthasar and Margaret (Baumgartner) Welk. She attended rural school and worked as a hired girl for families in the area.

She married Herbert Filler on August 3, 1934 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin, ND. Herbert and Antonia farmed in the Orrin area. To this union 12 children were born. Herbert passed away October 2, 1974.

Later Antonia moved to Pierre, SD to be closer to some of her children in the Pierre area. While in Pierre, she worked as a housekeeper and cook for the priest at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre, SD.

During this time she met Leo Gutenkauf and they were married in July of 1978. Leo and Antonia traveled much of the United States and abroad. One of the highlights of their travels was seeing Pope John Paul II. Leo passed away on February 24, 1989. After Leo's death, Antonia lived independently until her health forced her to move into assisted living. After a stroke, she lived in the Golden Living Center until the time of her death.

Left to cherish her memory are her nine children, Herbert (RoseMary) of Rugby, ND; Beatrice Hayes of Puyallup, WA; Lloyd (Phyllis) Filler of Winner, SD; Shirley Ann (Edward) Weigel of Velva, ND; Vernon (Geri) Filler of Quincy, WA; Karene (Maurice) Helms of West Columbia, SC; Margaret (Tom) Graves of Lexington, SC; Helen (Bill) Ruppel of Puyallup, WA; Charles Filler of Pierre, SD and Daughter-in-law, Carol Filler of Mobridge, SD. Antonia is survived by two sisters, Emilia Brossart of Rugby, ND and Pauline Mitzel of Denby, ND, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three step-children Diane (Dick) Menning of Pierre, SD; Donna (Ed) Carpenter of Rapid City, SD and JoAnn (Jerry) Dodson of Pierre, SD and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Antonia was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Herbert and Leo; her son, James Filler; two infant children, John and Antonette; two grandchildren, Judy Weigel and Myron Filler; three brothers, Michael, August and Anton; and six sisters, Katherine, Frances, Mary, Barbara, Elizabeth and Margaret.
