Catherine A. Wheeler was born at Troy, N. Y., on Feb. 13, 1837. She was the eldest child of twelve children of George and Melinda Wheeler. She lived in Troy with her parents until she was united in marriage with Samuel Baker of Wheeler, Steuben County, New York, on Aug. 30, 1856. In 1860 they came to Michigan with their first child. The Civil war then breaking out, they returned to New York, where he enlisted and served though out the war in the 161st New York Infantry. They returned again to Michigan and settled at Stockbridge, Ingham County. In 1887 they moved to Saginaw County where they spent a few years. Then came to Muskegon county in 1894, where they lived until his death June 6, 1911. To this union four children were born, one daughter, Mrs. Nora Mathewson of Eagle Harbor, Mich.; three sons, Mahlon and Harry of Corunna, and Aaron Baker of Rothbury, at whose home she passed away Feb. 22, 1931, at the age of 94 years, 9 days.


She is survived by her four children, four sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Garvey of Steuben county, New York. Mrs. Mary Higledae of Athens, Mich., Mrs. Tina Stoucker of Akron, OH, Mrs. Eva Ostrander of Spekene, OH.; twenty grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.


She accepted the faith and becoming a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church of Cheasuing, Mich. in 1892. Under the labor of Ebber Natelers and Faulkner and to which faith she held firm to the last. The funeral service was held at the Adventist church at Rothbury, Thursday at 11 o'clock. Elder C. N. Sanders officiating. Interment was made in White Oak cemetery at Blue Lake beside her husband.
