Child of John David Love Whitaker (1854-1935) & Cornelia S. Ingraham, Whit grew up in Como, MS, had to go to work early to help support the family but always had music in the home. Everyone in the family played at least one instument and all were very talented. He married (1) Juliette Graham (1896-1937) & (2) Margaret Hinson Black in 1938 in Memphis. With an 8th grade education, he rose through the ranks of Standard Oil from stenographer to become manager of Tires, Batteries & Accessories for the Southeast Region of the US. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Whit played the trumphet in orchestras and his church, Madison Heights, in which Memphis' greatest classical musicians played together each Sunday morning on stage. His younger brother, John(ny) Love Whitaker, played many instruments as well at the church and in Memphis. Whit had no issue but was a beloved step-grandfather to Margaret's granddaughters, Diane, Brenda & Margaret.
