Annie was born (out of wedlock) to Mary Margaret Zimmer. In the 1880 census, Mary Margaret was single and living with her parents, Mathias and Mary Zimmer, and her 3 year old daughter Annie Zimmer. Henry arrived in the U.S. about 1880 and married Annie's mother in 1887. After Mary married Henry Kirchner, Annie adopted his last name. He was likely her only known father. Though it is unknown why/how Mary really conceived Annie, an old story in the family is that Mary was taken beyond her will.

Annie married John Williams in 1894.
Together they had 15 children:
Ada Margaret, Charles Peter, Melvin John, Helen, Stanley Fredrick, Roy John, Milton Mathias, Ralph A., Gladys Annie, Ethel Henrietta, Hilda M., Sybil Helen, Roger John, Beatrice and Bernice.
