Mrs. Mary Helen Williams Underwood, 48, of Frederick, died Wednesday, May 3, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick. She was the wife of James Alfred Underwood Sr.
Born May 12, 1951, in Front Royal, Va., she was a daughter of Annie V. Mahoney Williams Walters, of Strasburg, Va., and the late Noah S. Williams.
Mrs. Underwood was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church of Gaithersburg, where she worked as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also was involved with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Strasburg and of Westminster.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Victoria S. Hudak and husband Jeff of Frederick, and Melissa M. Dowler and husband Robert III of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Ashley Hudak, Jeffrey Hudak and Zachary Hudak; two stepsons, James A. Underwood Jr. of Walkersville, and Larry V. Underwood of Frederick; five stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Arnold D. Williams of Bentonville, Va., Bradley Williams of Chester Gap, Va., Bossie Williams of Front Royal, and John L. Walters of Bentonville, Va.; and one sister, Brucie Jenkins of Browntown, Va.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Williams; one brother, Andrew Williams; and one daughter, Tabitha M. Mahoney.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. John Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
