R. Chace Williams
CHINA TWP. R. Chace Williams, age 69, of China Twp., formerly of Marine City, went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family, after a short illness on February 8, 2008.
He was born August 21, 1938 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Robert and Dorothy Williams.
Chace moved to St. Clair in 1951 when his father had a job transfer to Diamond Crystal Salt Co. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1956 and attended St Clair Co. Community College.
On May 16, 1959 Chace married Monna Ward in St. Clair.
He owned and operated Chace's Mobil in Marine City from 1958 to 1971, was a sales representative for Met Life from 1971 to 1993 and an Insurance Broker for Jackson National InSource Inc. and Titan from 1993 retiring in 2006, but continued to follow up with his clients.
Chace was a 45-year active member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he also served as chairman of the board.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Monna; children, Robert C. (Denise) Williams, Kimberly A. (Dan) Shelton, Michelle M. (Bob) Martin, Kristi A. (Jeff) Homan; grandchildren, Emily, Lindsay, Allyson, Kyle, Cameron, Zachary, Seth, Madison, and Dane; sister, Sue (Bill) Carter; brother, R. Cliff (Barb) Williams; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and was lifetime friends of Duane and Mary Jayne Young and family. Chace was predeceased by a twin sister Bette Brown.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, East China Twp., Pastor William Blount will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair.
Visiting hours are Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 and Monday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. and Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 at the church prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church or to the family wishes.
