Willie Mae Wofford, age 62, of 407 Chesley Drive, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at her home after a courageous battle against cancer.
A daughter of the late Willie J. Hawkins and Barbara Martin-Edwards, wife of the late John Edward Wofford, and step daughter of Joe Edwards of Dayton, OH, she was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School, a member of the Rocky Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Simpsonville where she served in many capacities: president of the Usher Board and secretary of the Prayer Warriors. She was a former employee of J.P. Stevens and Wilson Sporting Goods after which she found her calling as a Certified Nurses' Aide and became employed with Interim HealthCare of Greenville.
She is survived by three sons, John Stefan (Sherelle) Wofford of Greensboro, NC, James Emmanuel (Cassandra) Wofford of Greenville, Micheal Tyrone (Johniece) Wofford of Moore; two daughters, Tina Marie Wofford and Kimberly Lorena Wofford-Simmons of Simpsonville; fifteen grandchildren of which two were reared in the home, Leeza Thompson, Akeelah Simmons; one great grandchild; a niece, LaBarbara Jones of the home and a devoted friend, Deloris (Arto) Johnson of Mauldin.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, 1:30 p.m. at the Rocky Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. W.R. Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of a daughter, 12 Baneberry Court, Simpsonville.
Beasley Funeral Home, Fountain Inn is in charge of arrangements.
