Frances May Beavers, age 77, of Chattanooga, Tenn. passed away Monday, October 05, 2009 in a local hospital. She was born October 26, 1931 in Bartley, West Virginia to the late and Blanche & Ernest Woody, Sr.
She raised her children in Chattanooga before moving to Nashville where she lived for 25 years. After 20 years of service, with Family and Children's Services for the State of Tennessee, she returned to Chattanooga five years ago.
She was a former resident of Creekside Retirement Community.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the BYKOTA Sunday School Class. For many years, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader as well as a Church Youth Leader.
Her brothers, Ernest Woody, Jr., David Woody, and sisters, Elizabeth Odum, Anna Margaret Quesenberry, Agnes Metz, and Sue Holloway preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Jack) Wagner of Chattanooga; Sue (Randy) Owens of Ooltewah; Kelsie James Beavers, Jr. of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, K. J. Beavers III, Melinda (Michael) Hamby, Lance (Ruxandra) Wagner; Julie (Josh) Knight, and Cole Owens; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Alice (Jim) Pruitt of Jonesboro, Arkansas; several nieces and nephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Clark officiating.
Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421.
Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
