Funeral services for Jean Wright Murphy, 84, of West Columbia, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Officiating will be Rev. Msgr. Leigh A. Lehocky. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery. Rosary recitation will be held at 2 p.m. and visitation following until 4 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Murphy, widow of beloved husband Virgil A. Murphy, Sr., passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Born in Bessemer City, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Clifford Wright and Ona Mae Paire Wright. She was a devoted and longtime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Five O Plus Club and of the Ladies Sodality of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was an AVON representative for many years. She retired as owner and operator of Murphy's Open Air Market.
Surviving are her daughters, Dee Mayfield (Grayson) of Gilbert, SC, Jill M. Perry (Hugh) of Savannah, GA and Charlene M. Crumpton (Mike) of Lexington, SC; sons, Virgil A. Murphy, Jr. (Carol) at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, SC and Patrick Murphy (Brenna) of West Columbia; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one soon to be born.
