She was reared in a Christian home and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at a very early age, where she attended regularly until she met and married the love of her life, Ronald Fountain. They later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania making it their home. She reunited with another christian church family attending and serving the Lord faithfully until her health began to decline.
To this holy matrimony and new surroundings as they settled in, one son was born, Renaldo, who remained by her side until she longed to return to her home in Caroline County, Virginia, settling with her devoted husband and caregiver, Ronald.
Shirley was a God fearing wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all. She loved praising The Lord and she lowed her praise and worship time with the Lord.
Preceding her in death were siblings, Elaine Wright, Grace Deloris Gray, Charles J. Gray, Jr. and Wayne R. Gray.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Ronald Fountain; son, Renaldo Fountain; devoted caregiver and niece, Cheryl Sylvester; a very special and devoted caregiver, Annie Washington, Mary Washington Hospital Hospice Team along with a devoted nurse, Cathy Gillis; sisters, Virginia (Patsy) Latney, Joyce Herndon, Frances J. Robinson, Irish Beth (Curtis) Price; brother, William "Bunk" (Mamie) Gray; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, followed by a celebration of life beginning at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 18562 County Line Church Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546. Interment will follow at H & L Brown Family Cemetery, Cedon Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
