OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)

Peg Yarnelle, 89, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Wabash Skilled Care Center in Wabash. She was born March 17, 1922 in Urbana, Indiana, to Myrval and Maxine (Snyder) Kratzer.

Peg was a 1939 graduate of Urbana High School. She married Joseph W. Yarnelle at Grace United Methodist Church in Urbana on September 1, 1945; he died August 16, 2009. She was a homemaker and owner of the Decor Shoppe in Wabash. She was a member of Wabash First United Methodist Church, and the Elks Lodge. She was a charter member of the Wabash Country Club, a board member of the Woman's Clubhouse Association, and the Wabash Valley Dance Theater. She was also a charter member of the Wabash County Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer surgery hostess. She was a volunteer driver for 25 years with Meals-on-Wheels, served on the Wabash Tourism Board, and the board of Cheer, Inc. Peg enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, cooking, gardening, and her family.

She is survived by three children, Ken (Jill) Yarnelle of Wabash, Nan Yarnelle of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Jenifer (Gary Lee) Yarnelle of Hillsborough, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Garvin and Ben (Jessica) Garvin, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James Yarnelle of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joseph Yarnelle of Fort Wayne, Indiana, John Yarnelle of Wabash, and Hannah Lee of Fort Collins, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Arthur, Lewis, Bailey, Netta Garvin of Minneapolis; and a sister, Beverly (Dean) Tyner of Port Orange, Florida. She was preceded in death by her son, Denny Yarnelle, who died in 1947.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kurt Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is Wabash County Historical Museum or the Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
