Robert was born and raised in Springfield.
The first time Robert enlisted in the Marines was 15 May 1952, at a recruiting office in Boston. After completing his 3 year enlistment he enlisted again 9 June 1955, while training at Fort Sills in Oklahoma.
Robert arrived in Vietnam 8 May 1968 and was assigned to H & S Battery, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Robert was riding on a military vehicle in the vicinity of Phuoc Ninh (2) and 4 kilometers south souhwest of the Tuy Loan Bridge, when the vehicle struck a hostile land mine. Robert died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the head and body from the hostile mine explosion.
Major Green served his country for 16 years.
Survived by his wife, Patricia L Green and his 2 sons; John A and Robert B Green, all of 2030 Estero Drive, Oceanside, California and his mother; Edith A Green of 58 Carlisle St, Springfield, Massachusetts.
His father; William V Green was deceased.
