Funeral services for Laura B. Johnson, daughter of the late Dr Lafayette and Matilda Lewis of Wilbur, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Wilbur Cemetery with Dr Malcolm McCallum officiating. Mrs. Johnson died in a Spokane nursing home May 25. She had celebrated her 89th birthday on May 6. At the age of 55 Mrs. Johnson received her Licensed Practical Nurse license and retired from this profession at the age of 75. She is survived by a daughter, 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The Robertson Funeral Home in Wilbur was in charge of services. (Wilbur Register: 5-29-1975)

Ona entered into rest August 10, 2009. Ona's life began in Los Angeles California, on May 18, 1918 to Fred and Laura Johnson. A few years later, they settled in the Spokane area where she grew up, made lifelong friends, went to school, finally married the love of her life Harold Cox, and started a family. Harold and Ona had a son James H. Cox Jr. and a daughter Judy L. Sander/Morin. Ona is survived by her son James, wife Marilyn, and his sons Mitchell of California, and Rodney, wife Gretchen and their son Preston of Georgia. Daughter Judy L. Sander/Morin, her sons Jeffery L. Sander, wife Monica and their three children, Jessica and Donny Vansickle, Van Marie, and Jacob. Son Scott L. Sander, wife Krista and their three children, Mitchell, Grace and Hannah. Ona had a very full life raising her two children, building a cabin at Deer Lake, and later after Harold retired traveling the country in their trailer until his passing in 1983. Ona continued to live in her home and go to the lake where she swam until she was almost 80 with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which she enjoyed very much. Ona spent the last four years of her life living with her daughter Judy. To her nieces and nephews Ona was known as aunty "O". We would like to extend a very special thanks to all of you for loving her so much and including her in your lives. We know she loved you all very deeply. Ona A. Cox enjoyed life, loved to have a good time and laugh with family and friend, she will be greatly missed. Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 North Government Way at 3pm Monday, August 17th.
