Frances Meyer Kembel passed away on January 2, 2007 at Ritzville, WA. The daughter of Edmond and Blanche (Maze) Meyer, Frances was born August 2, 1918 at Ritzville. She attended country school near Rocky Ford on Crab Creek before graduating from Ritzville High School in 1936. She graduated from Kinman Business College in 1937 and began a career as a legal secretary. She worked for George W. Freese until 1940 and then for W. Walters Miller. In 1941 she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the Navy Department. She returned to Ritzville and on January 29, 1942 married Eldwyn Huse of Lind. They farmed at Cunningham until that fall when he enlisted in the Air Force. After training Frances joined him in Hobbs, New Mexico where in May of 1944 he was killed in an airplane crash. In September of 1944 Frances joined the Coast Guard Spars and after training was transferred to Washington, D.C. In June of 1945 she was transferred to Seattle and remained there until her discharge in June of 1949. She returned to Ritzville, and married Alton Kembel of Ritzville on February 23, 1945. Together they had five children, Pamela, Margo, Gregory, Jeffrey and Mark. They divorced in 1965. In July of 1965 she began working for Milton P. Sackmann in Ritzville and continued as his legal secretary until her retirement in January of 1984. She lived in Arizona from 1990 to 2000 when she returned to Ritzville. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Ritzville Festivals Association, and a 50+ year member of Zenobia Rebekah Lodge serving as Noble Grand and District President. She was the first female American Legion Commander of C.J. Newland Post 151, and the first female President of the Ritzville High School Alumni Association in 1973. She was also a member of Gritman Senior Center and the Adams County Historical Society. Surviving are daughters Pamela Kembel of Spokane, and Margo (Nolen) Fugal of Orem, Utah; sons Gregory, Jeffrey and Mark Kembel all of the Seattle area; five granddaughters Michele Horton, Tamara Fugal, Ilene Ricks, Lynne and Tanea Fugal; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister May (Clyde) Telecky of Ritzville. She was preceded in death by sister Anna who died at age eight. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Ritzville, WA. Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, from 10 AM to 5 PM and the DANEKAS FUNERAL HOME, RITZVILLE, WA. Inurnment will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to either Emanuel Lutheran Church or to the Shriner's Hospital.
