On May 14, 1927 as Joseph Caldwell King, he married Cristina Patricia Pernas at Trinity Church in Cranford, New Jersey.

Per a CIA personnel document, he married Ana Vilma Gaspar in 1942 in Hungary.
She became a naturalized United States citizen in 1991.
Her 2003 obituary published in the Johnson City Press on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 stated she was a native of Budapest, Hungary and lived in Argentina for 30 years. She came to the United States in 1984 and later became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
They were the parents of two children.
