Captain Nobe Ray Koontz, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Springfield, Ma. resident of Lexington, NC.

Captain Nobe Ray Koontz was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the U S Air Force Reserve, CPT Koontz served our country until August 17th, 1968 in Quang Nam, Vietnam. He was 29 years old and was married. It was reported that Nobe died when his plane crashed. His body was recovered. CPT Koontz is on panel 48W, line 33 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 8 years.

Captain Nobe Koontz served with the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, Korat RTAFB, Thailand.. This tour began on 4 January 1968. Though stationed at Korat RTAFB, Captain Koontz was killed when he made an emergency landing of his F-105D at Danang AB. The aircraft flipped into a puddle near the end of the runway and he drowned in the cockpit.

He was the son of Mr Nobe Ray and Mrs Marjorie Stutts Koontz of Lexington, NC. He was the husband of Mrs. Bonnie Koontz and father of 4 children.

He was awarded US Air Force Fighter Pilot Wings, The Vietnam Service Medal wit Two Bronze Stars, The Air Force Good conduct Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The Air Medal with Devices, The National Defense Service Medal, The Air Force Longevity Service Award with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; The Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and The Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
