When George William Myrick was born on November 9, 1919, his family lived on Church Street in Martin, Weakley county, Tennessee. His father, Elvis, was 23 and was a truck driver for the Standard Oil company. His mother, Bessie Learlean (Winstead) was 23. George had two younger brothers, James Henry: born 1 March 1921, and Elvis Jr: born 27 December 1932. Sometime between his birth and 1930 his family moved to District 18 in Weakley county, Tennessee and became farmers. His maternal grandmother Laura Josephine (Winstead) Myrick was living with the family at this time. On 12 August 1939, at age 20, George married Mavis Laverne Teague in Obion, Tennessee. She was 17 years of age. They lived on Hyndson Road, Weakley county Tennessee. He worked on his father's farm as a farm laborer. On 1 July 1941, at age 21, he registered for the draft and enlisted on 22 May 1944. His service number is 34924585. George was a Private assigned to the 4th Division 22nd Infantry Regiment, Company F. His official death is recorded as December 4, 1944. He was killed in action during the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, Hurtgen, Kreis Düren, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. George is buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Belgium, plot B, row 13, grave 11.
