A member of a Tuolumne County pioneer family passed away in Petaluma on a Wednesday night. Miss Grace Allen passed away in a Petaluma hospital where she had been receiving medical attention for about two months.

Miss Allen was born January 6, 1874, at the Allen ranch on Yankee Hill, and except for occasional short visits with some of her relatives, she spent her entire life on the ranch, in later years keeping house for her brother, Grant Allen, who also remained with the old home place.

Two other brothers, William J. and James H. Allen, resided in Ceres, and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Casinella, lived in Snelling at the time of Miss Allen's death.

The funeral was handled by the Burden Undertaking Company and took place from the funeral home chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. section of the Columbia cemetery

The Genealogy of the Allen Family

Father, Alexander Allen: Alexander Allen was a farmer and ran the family farm. He was born in April 1825 in Northern Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in 1848 and married Margaret about 1851.

Mother, Margaret Allen: Margaret spent her life taking care of the family and home. She gave birth to ten children but had lost three of them before the 1900 Census was taken. Margaret immigrated to the United States in 1846.

Son, Alexander G. Allen: Alexander G. was born in October 1854 in California. He was a farmer and never married. He owned a farm in Merced County but returned to Big Hill to help Grant and Grace run the family farm. He passed away at age 69 on July 29, 1924 in Tuolumne County.

Son, William J. Allen: William J. was born in 1858 in California. He worked as a laborer for awhile in Tuolumne County. By 1910, William was married for 15 years but living alone in Turlock, California where he owned his home where he was working as a farm laborer. Eventually he was divorced, and by 1920, he and his brother, James H., were running a farm in Ceres, Stanislaus County, California. They continued to do so through that decade and beyond.

Daughter, Sarah A Allen: Sarah had apparently married or passed away before the 1880 Census. She was 5 months old when the 1860 Census was taken.

Son, James H. Allen: James was born in June 1862. By 1920, James H. Allen, and his brother, William J. Allen, were running a farm in Ceres, Stanislaus County, California. They continued to do so through that decade and beyond. James remained a single man.

Daughter, Jane E. Allen: Born in February 1864, Jane married John. A. Morgan in 1883. John was born in New York in January 1854. Jane and John had two children. Their eldest child, Kate M., was born in October 1884. Their younger child, Carrie E., was born in September 1892.

Daughter, Margaret Allen: I am having trouble finding any record of her after the 1880 Census. She was born about 1866. She may have married a man with the last name of Morgan and later a man with the last name of Gallaghaer. If so, she was a widow by 1910.

Son, Grant S. Allen: Grant was born in April 1868. In 1900, Grant and his sister, Grace, were single and living with their parents. Alexander was a farmer, and Grant was a farm laborer.

Daughter, Mary Carrie Allen, was born September 9, 1871. She married Daniel Cassinella, and the couple lived in Hopeton, Merced County, California, where they farmed. The couple had three children, Russell, Allen and Verna. In 1910 and 1920, Grant, Grace and Alexander were running the family farm on Big Hill.
