Pvt. Powers was conscripted into the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He fought with the 45th N.C. regiment, Co. F, known as the "Dan River Grays" from Rockingham Co., North Carolina. This unit is from near Reidsville, N.C. This memorial stone @ Ebenezer Cemetery in South Douglas County, Ga. is a tribute to his life which was eclipsed after his capture at Petersburg, VA in 1865. He was imprisoned @ Point Lookout Federal Prison Camp in Maryland and died there from exposure. Powers is the maternal ancestor of Daniel Hicks Burnette buried here (my maternal grandfather).
