Earnest was reared and died in Shreveport Louisiana. He attended the public schools there. He was married to Lula Tyson, on February 23, 1919 until his death in 1976, 55 years. To this union no children were born. He was a member of North Star Lodge No. 69, Prince Hall Grand Lodge F. & A.M., Rodessa, Louisiana. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for many years. He had a restaurant that he operated with his brother, Craig, in Shreveport, he was an undertaker, and also a barber. He liked to drive while looking at the scenery all around him.
