Uncle Dewey: This is my grandfather's brother. Joseph Dewey Lear was one of 10 children born to Henry and Martha Lear on June 8th, 1898 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1945. He was a foreman and worked for the Portland Terminal Railroad Company for 20 years before he retired in 1965. He died September 13, 1975 of a blood clot in his lung. He was 77. He married Emma Rosa Brown, and had 4 children, Dewey Green, Mattie Beulah, Davis Hearnton, and Oada. Emma died of a heart attack in Inglewood, California, but was taken back to Portland, Oregon, where she was buried at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with her husband and daughter, Oada. Joseph Dewey Lear was also buried at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, in Portland Oregon.
His siblings were: Henry James, Dorothy, Martha Beulah, Craig Elwood, Earnest Green (Bud), William Atlee, Mary Green, Ruthie, and Thomas Calvin.
