From the official records of Fort Buford, North Dakota: Private Carl Aherne, Company H, 11th Infantry, committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a bar on the ceiling of the guard house. The man was kept in the guard house awaiting the order for his removal to the Insane Asylum at Washington, DC.
