Peter Joseph Danzilo, a 52-year Breezy Point NY resident, retired restauranteur, commodities broker, and longtime columnist for the Rockaway Point News, died from complications related to emphysema at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, on August 4, 2008. He was 83.

Mr. Danzilo was born in Brooklyn on June 29, 1925. He was a 1945 graduate of the New York State Maritime Academy and served honorably as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was a 1950 graduate of St. John's University and also served his country during the Korean Police Action. During that conflict, he earned letters of commendation from his superiors for his role in directing the troop landings of the Inchon Invasion and the Yalu River engagement.

In 1953, following his military discharge, he worked for his father-in-law, Nicholas Scandore, the proprietor of a number of successful businesses, including The Eleganté Supper Club on Ocean Parkway, the Scandore Paper Box Company (both in Brooklyn NY), and partnered with Guy Lombardo on his East Point House in Freeport, Long Island NY, and the Jones Beach Marine Theatre. He was an active member of the 40/8 and the American Legion, serving as a Past Commander of the J.W. Person Post #14, as well as being the Kings County Commander.

An accomplished and avid Contract Bridge player, he attained the rank of "Life Master" in 1995, and in later years authored a column on the game for "The Wave," a newspaper published in Rockaway NY. He and his wife were founding members of the Breezy Point Duplicate Bridge Club, which exists to this day, over 20 years later.

Mr. Danzilo was survived by his late wife of 56 years, the former Helene Scandore; daughters, Helene Schroeder (Alexandria VA) and Christine Coletta-Danzilo (Ventura County CA); sister, Barbara Genoese (Breezy Point NY); and grandson Valentino Schroeder.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A memorial service was held at St. Thomas More Church, with interment at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton NY.
