"Chinkie" (as he was known by family and friends) was my grandfather's (Shelton E. Overby, Jr.) first cousin, and my great-grandmother's (Bertha Schrader Overby) nephew. He served in the U.S. Army during WW2, and was killed in action a few days after U.S. forces landed on the Philippine island of Luzon in Lingayen Gulf on January 9, 1945.

Right before they both went overseas, Chinkie told my grandfather that he had a feeling that he wasn't going to make it out of the war alive.
