College Football Coach. He was football coach, college athletics administrator and professional sports executive. For twenty-three seasons, he coached at Georgetown (1931), Michigan State (1932), Fordham (1933-38), Boston College (1939-40) and Notre Dame (1941-43, 1946-53). As head football coach for Notre Dame, he led his teams to four National titles (1943, 1946-47, (1949). He had a head coach record of 107 wins, 13 loss, 9 ties and was named AFCA Head Coach of the Year in 1941. He served as Notre Dame Athletics Administrator (1947-49) and was General Manger of the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960. In 1970, he was selected to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He died of heart failure at age 65.
