Helen Emily Broussard

BROUSSARD, Helen Emily Broussard passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the age of 94. Helen was born in Plattenville, Louisiana,on May 12, 1916.

She was a longtime resident of New Orleans, LA and resided at Malta Park. She was retired from Bell South after more than 40 years of service. She began her career as an information operator and rose through the ranks to become the first female office manager of the General Section of Southern Bell, the only woman in 1960 in a management 'line' post.

Helen was a Life Member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers of America and past officer of the Crescent City Life Member Club.

Throughout her retirement she volunteered for many organizations and participated in The New Orleans People Program at the Congregation of St. Joseph. In 2004, she was Queen of the Malta Square at Sacred Heart Carnival ball.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles D. Broussard, Sr. and Emily Aucoin Broussard; a sister, Aline B. Douroux, three brothers: Charles D. Broussard, Jr., Howard Broussard, Sr., and Harry Broussard; and a niece, Linda Broussard.

She is survived by her nephew, John Paul Douroux, Jr.; niece:s Suzanne D. Pecot, Judy D. Amox, and Nancy D. Parmelee; and great-nieces: Alison N. Cernich and Danielle D. Layne; as well as nephews: Jacques Broussard, Howard Broussard, Jr., Harry Broussard and niece, Barbara Wood.

Helen possessed a true joy of life. Her family will treasure the stories of her travels and her volunteer work, and will miss her giving spirit and good sense of humor.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Helen's caregiver, Ms. Prince Sullivan.

Relatives, friends, and members of the Bell South Telephone Pioneers are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery.
