Moreau and Margery Carroll are recorded in the 1870 Massillon Township, Cedar County, Iowa census, post office, Lowden. The 1880 Center Township, Cedar County, Iowa census records them with 5 children. The 1885 Iowa state census records them in neighboring Johnson County with Frank, 14; Nannie G., 12; Mary E., 10; & Lizzie F., 8. They are recorded next to Margery's mother and siblings. The one-month-old infant from the 1880 census is not recorded in 1885.

Although not transcribed together on Ancestry, Moreau, Margery J., Nannie G., Mary E., & Lizzie F. are all recorded in the 1895 Johnson County, Iowa state census. Miss Nannie Carroll and Frank Carroll are recorded as students at the University of Iowa in 1895.

The exact death date for Moreau Carroll has not been confirmed. Some Ancestry family trees have 1895. His wife filed for a Civil War widow's pension in 1902. There is a 2 Feb 1899 newspaper article from the Daily Iowa State Press in Iowa City, Iowa, that refers to the "somewhat sensational disappearance of Moreau Carroll some years ago."
