Senior Pastor of The Church On The Way, The First Foursquare Church of Van Nuys, located in the San Fernando Valley. Membership of the church was at 12,000 strong at the time of his passing due to an aneurysm hemorrhage. He served as Senior Pastor for four years (from late 1999 until his homegoing) at the church founded by his father-in-law, Dr. Jack Hayford, whom he succeded the pastorate. Dr. Bauer suffered the burst cerebral aneurysm immediately after completing the mid-week "Church Alive!" prayer meeting and worship services on Wednesday evening, October 22nd, 2003, collapsing in the arms of one of his sons. Dr. Bauer passed away two days later on Friday afternoon at the age of 49, without regaining consciousness, at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

He originally served as Associate Pastor at TCOTW for 20 years. Many of his messages were broadcast over KTLW ("The Life On The Way Communications Radio Network," TCOTW's radio and television outreach) under the title of "Life On The Way." He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at The King's College and Seminary, with over 600 students enrolled at the time of his death. He also established a reputation of being in the forefront of religious leaders by uniting Christian and Jewish representatives and clergy, instituting a rapport with the Latino community by creating La Iglesia En El Camino (the largest Spanish-speaking congregation in the U.S.), assisted in the founding of Los Angeles Community Builders Inc. which fights inner-city decline and juvenile delinquency, and was an internationally often sought-after speaker/teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (who continues to serve as a pastor and Director of Women's Ministries at TCOTW and also as an author); his parents; two sons; a daughter; two brothers; and a sister.
