BUFFALO CENTER — Robert D. Armstrong, 63, of Buffalo Center died Sunday (May 23, 2004) at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Inurnment was at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

There was a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center.

Robert Dean Armstrong was born on Feb. 22, 1941, at Raymond, Minn., to parents Royal and Catherine (Rhubee) Armstrong. He attended school in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

On June 11, 1961, Bob was united in marriage with Sandra Rippentrop at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota, Iowa. The couple made their home at Buffalo Center where Bob worked with his father, Royal, and his brother, Chuck, at the DX service and gas station. Following his work at the DX station, Bob was the owner/operator of the local NAPA store from December of 1979 until his health forced him into early retirement in March of 2002.

Bob's love for his work was evident through the ways he spent his free time: He enjoyed racing stock cars, driving motorcycles, and driving his scooter.

He and Sandy loved to take their family camping in the summer months to local sites such as Crystal Lake, and to places such as Wyoming and the Ozarks.

He also liked to play cards with his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed taking fishing trips, especially to Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, of Buffalo Center; four children, Troy Armstrong and his wife, Sue, of Buffalo Center, Barb Hofbauer and her husband, Rick, of Buffalo Center, Paul Armstrong and his wife, Julie, of Buffalo Center, and Kelly Armstrong and her fiancé, Justin Lugar of Garner; seven grandchildren, Nik Hofbauer, Josh Hofbauer, Spencer Armstrong, Chelsey Armstrong, Casandra Meyer, Kyle Meyer, and Cody Meyer; one great-grandchild, Madyson Kohlhaas; his mother, Catherine Armstrong of Buffalo Center; a brother, Charles "Chuck" Armstrong and his wife, Marcy of Buffalo Center; and many extended relatives and friends.
