Musician. He was a master oboe player, having graduated from Academy of Arab Music in 1948. He achieved stardom based on his warm and romantic voice which garnered him the nickname of "Nightingale" (Andalib) in Arabic. Since his first public appearance in 1952, he had starring roles in 20 movies, made hundreds of programs for TV and radio in Egypt, and recorded over 260 songs which are still best sellers. He died at the age of 47 while in King's College Hospital in London. At least 4 Egyptian girls took their own life when they heard of his death. He is buried in Cairo, Egypt.
