Monon Railroad Engineman William Belanger/Balanger*, 60, was killed when the locomotive he was driving, #36, a passenger train, derailed near Saint John, Indiana after striking a semi trailer. The Fireman, Floyd Crowder, 35, was killed as well when the locomotive and tender overturned.

Cause of the accident was a stalled semi truck trailer on the tracks on Old Joliet Road crossing.

No passengers or other crew members were killed.
