H. Simmons Adkins, 83, of 79 Branch Road, Collinsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Henry County, to James Adam Adkins and Lessie Mae Hollandsworth Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Adkins Hundley; and a brother, Shelburne A. Adkins.
He served in the Army during World War II, and retired from Fieldcrest Mills with more than 45 years of service. He had been a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville for more than 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Evelene H. Adkins of the home; a son, Ron Adkins of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Rosa Pilson of Eden, N.C.; a brother, Alvin "Pete" E. Adkins of Collinsville; and a granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Pastor Carlton McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
