*** William Orlan Bare, Major, Major Bare was a member of the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On July 27, 1967, he was the weapons system officer of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) flying 5 miles southwest of Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

The wedding of Miss Calesta James and Lt. Geo. H. Bare was solemnized Wednesday evening in St. James Episcopal church at Mesilla Park. Rev. Hunter Lewis read the double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Mrs. W.F. James. The bride wore a gown of ivory satin made in princess style. A triple strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom, was her only ornament. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and lilies-of- the-valley. Mrs. A. L. Walker, sister of the bride, was matron of. The bridesmaids, Miss Ernestine McIntosh, niece of the bride, and Miss Elizabeth Bare, sister of the bridegroom. Bare was attended by his brother. Edward K. Bare of Denver, as best man, and his brother, Daniel E. Bare of Denver. A reception for the immediate families and a few friends was held immediately after the ceremony at the home of the bride’s mother. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. Bare left for Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, where Lt. Bare Is assigned to assist in R. O. T. C. training at Camp Stanley, until the middle of July. They will then motor up the Pacific coast, returning to Las Cruces by Sept. 1. where they will make their home. Mrs. Bare is the younger daughter of Mrs. W. F. James and has lived in Las Cruces for the past six years. Lt Bare was graduated from the U. S. military academy at West Point In 1920, and the infantry school at Ft. Benning, Ga., in 1921, and is first lieutenant of infantry D. O. L. at State College. He came to State College three years ago as assistant instructor in military science. Before being assigned to State College he was stationed at Ft Sam Houston, San Antonio, where he was attached to the 9th Infantry.

27 July 1967 - Two men of the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 460th Tac Recon Wing, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon, were lost when their RF-4C was shot down 5 miles southwest of Dong Hoi in Quang Binh Province,North Vietnam:

Apparently the crew had finished their task and was returning when their aircraft disappeared in the mountains about 25 miles west of Dong Hoi.

Their was no evidence to suggest that the crew had survived the crash of their aircraft.

As of 13 Aug 2002 their remains have not been repatriated.
