Soccer Player. While working as a clerk at the Carlsberg Breweries, he started his soccer career in 1943 with the Copenhagen Club BK Frem and was on the team that won the Danish amateur champion tournament in 1944. Professional soccer was not introduced in Denmark until 1978. In 1948 he was the top goal-scorer of the tournament. The same year he was selected to the Danish national team for the Summer Olympics in London. His four goals in Denmark's 5-3 victory over Italy made headlines in Italy, and he was immediately approached by several Italian Clubs, but it was Juventus FC that secured his signature on a three-year professional contract. He stayed with the Juventus for 6 years, playing 187 games and scoring 124 goals. In the 1951-1952 season, he was the top goal-scorer in the Serie A. His record as the most goal-scoring foreign player in Juventus stood until the year 2006. With the team, he won the Serie A championship in 1950 and 1952. Leaving Juventus in 1954 he played one season with another Serie A Club, S.S. Lazio, before returning to Denmark in 1955, where he rejoined BK Frem, first as a coach and later playing 2 seasons in the Danish League. He ended his career in 1960. By then, the Coca-Cola Company in Denmark had appointed him propaganda manager. He always maintained close ties with Italy and Juventus, and in 1984 the order of Cavalieri della Repubblica Italiana was bestowed on him. When news of his death in 1990 reached Italy, it made the front-page of the newspapers, and the Juventus-team played their next game wearing black armbands.
