Gary L. Anderson, 69, of Aledo died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at his home.

A celebration of Gary's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where memorials may be left to Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo. Online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

He was born June 1, 1937, in Davenport, a son of Virgil and Genevieve Powers Anderson. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1955. He attended Western Illinois University, Monmouth College and graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla. He married Karon L. Berry Nov. 11, 1961, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo.

Gary was associated for many years with his father in the Virgil Anderson Motor Company and the Anderson Oil Company of Aledo until the businesses were sold. Early in his career he was a commercial pilot for the former Shetland Pony Journal. In recent years, Gary enjoyed following the financial markets, reading and fellowship with all of his friends.

He was a member and baptized in Messiah Lutheran Church. His other memberships included Oakview Country Club, Aledo Investment Club and Aledo Exchange Club.

Gary enjoyed golfing, loved to be with his family, tell stories, and had a great respect for his Swedish heritage and forefathers.

He is survived by his wife, Karon; a daughter, Susan Anderson and her fiance, Mark Sewald, Aurora, Colo.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Kimberly Anderson, Mukwonago, Wis., and Tye Anderson, Aledo; three grandchildren, Travis, Jeanine and Nicole Anderson, Mukwonago; a sister, Barbara (husband, Andy) Andrews, Greenwood Village, Colo.; and his mother-in-law, Dorothalene Berry, Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; and a brother, Roger.
