Ancil Bailey was the son of John Wesley Bailey Jr.[4 Mar 1826- 11 Aug 1922] and Mary E Polly Briggs[ 10 Apr 1833 - 3 Jun 1923].
He was the partner of Mary Lodemie "Demi" Buchanan and the husband of Elizabeth Lizzie Callahan. Lizzie was the older sister of my Grandmother Minnie Bessie Callahan Bailey (Jesse).
My Grandmother told me Ancil and Lizzie were only married about fifteen days when Ancil started having extreme pain in his stomach. They sent for the doctor and when he arrived he had Ancil taken out to the barn and he performed surgery on him in the barn. My Grandmother described it as "being gutted like a hog." She said the Doctor said it was cancer.
Ancil was the father of Milton Buchanan. My Daddy told me that his Dad, Jesse Bailey, and Milton were very good friends and when you saw one the other one was usually close by.
Daddy said he remembers that Milton was supposed to have died from being kicked in the head by a mule.
I was excited to find Milton's death certificate that said cause of death was a fractured skull from being kicked in the head by a mule.
