Eleanore Schaaf was one of twelve children born to William and Mabel (James) Schaaf. At the time of her birth, the Schaafs resided on Quincy Hill in Hancock, where Eleanore attended the Quincy School. After completing her education, Eleanore worked at the Crown Bakery and St. Joseph's Hospital (later Portage Hospital), both in Hancock.

Eleanore was married three times. Her first marriage was to Edward O'Connor; her second husband was to Charles J. Cole; and her third marriage united her with Paul Abrelat. All three men preceded Eleanore in death.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Eleanore was preceded in death by her son Edward O'Connor; Edward's wife and son Irene and Scott O'Connor; her sisters Ethel Kezele, Myrtle Rivest, and Beatrice Schaaf; and her brothers Jack, Raymond, Ronald, and Donald Schaaf.
