Sergeant, Arizona Highway Patrol DPS, 57, whose career lasted nearly 27 years, died at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He retired from the department April 21st, 2003. He began his career on Oct. 3rd, 1976, at the DPS Cadet Training Academy in Phoenix. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Keams Canyon Hopi Reservation and transferred to Springerville on Nov. 8th, 1981. Promoted to sergeant and assigned to Holbrook on Jan. 30, 1983 and then to the Department's gang unit as supervisor for Navajo and Apache counties. He and his squad received many awards and Chris (a Michigan native) received a Letter of Commendation for his actions involving rioters in 1984.
