Obituary: Betty Coleen Eckman was the second of four children born to Clarence and Grace (Gottsche) Eckman. She was born at the family home in Arnolds Park on November 2, 1929. She graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1947 and was an active cheerleader during her school years. Betty lived her entire life in the lakes region and worked in the clubhouse at Brooks Golf Course, the Roof Garden, and the Amusement Park in her youth. She also enjoyed roller-skating at the rink.

On March 12, 1949 she married Richard Alexander in Jackson, Minnesota. To this union five children were born.

Betty and her husband operated Alexander Blacktop Company, a construction company, west of Milford, which was sold in 1988. They then began H.T.C., Inc., a manufacturing company. They retired in 1990. Betty was an avid golfer and also loved gardening, flowers and traveling. In her later years health problems limited her golf game; but she took pleasure in playing hole number 7 at Woodlyn Hills and riding along with her husband in the golf cart. She loved tending to her African violets, Christmas cactus, and geraniums.

Betty passed away near her home on March 5th, 2004 due to Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard (Dick) Alexander; son, William Alexander and his wife, Sandra of Milford, daughter, Debra Morton and her husband, Michael, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, daughter, Nancy Alexander of Spencer, son, Timothy Alexander of Milford, and daughter, Valerie Watters and her husband, Mitchell of Arnolds Park, grandchildren, John, Kristi, and Brian Alexander, Jennifer Baker, Angela Leonard, Stefanie Chapman, Marci and Amber Lemke, Tiffany and Sarah Alexander, Alex and Breanna Watters; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alannah, Chase and Quinn Baker, Kaylea and Emma Leonard, Chandler Galm, and Madison Norman. Survivors also include a sister, Doris Pettigrew, two brothers, Leverne Eckman and his wife, Kay, Larry Eckman and his wife, Lois, aunts, Dorothy Boyer of Lake Park, and Gertrude Gottsche of Spirit Lake, and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Brandee Alexander, and brother in law, Glen Pettigrew.
