Warren Ackerman, 89, of Jupiter, Fla., the owner and operator of a longtime City of Tonawanda business, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) in the Renova Health Care Center in Florida after a long illness.

A native of North Tonawanda, Ackerman lived in Tonawanda for 45 years before moving to Jupiter 19 years ago.

Ackerman owned and operated the former Button's Grill and Lounge along with his first wife, Eltheo "Teo" (Knopf), and son Garon W. from the 1930s until 1983. Originally located on Grove Street, the restaurant was eventually relocated to Main Street in the City of Tonawanda. Ackerman sold the business in 1983.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in the City of Tonawanda, the Jupiter Lodge 2469 BPOE in Florida and a past member of North Tonawanda Lodge 860 BPOE.

Eltheo Ackerman died in 1980, and Ackerman's second wife, Leona W.(Keitz) Ackerman , died in April 2001.

Besides his son, Ackerman is survived by a stepson, Donald W. Black of Florida; and two stepdaughters, Roberta Pardee of Amherst and Linda Guido of Lewiston.
