Gavin was 7 years old when he was struck and killed by a car in the Crown Heights Section of Brooklyn New York, his 7 years old cousin Angela was seriously injured. The driver had run a red light, collided with another car, jumped the curb and hit the children on the side walk. He was never arrested or charged. This caused anger and outrage that sparked a three day riot, now known as the Crown Street Riots.
