Gladys M. Barnes , 74, of Matthews, died Saturday, September 15, 2001, at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2001, at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8;00 p.m. today, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel.
Mrs. Barnes was born January 16, 1927 in Franklin County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Vernon Nelson and Kate Philpott Nelson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, J. B. Barnes, of Matthews, NC, children, Joyce Simpson, of Mint Hill, NC, Jay Barnes , of SC, Cynthia Barnes Gustler, of VA, Debbie Sluder, of Wadesboro, NC, Sherry Cable, of Mint HIll, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sister, Ann Smith and half brother, Buster Nelson, both of VA. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne (Alford) Barnes and a half brother, Robert 'Buddy' Nelson.
