ROCKFORD - Jack P. Akers, 74, of Rockford, passed away January 5, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 25, 1939 in Vincennes, Indiana to Lloyd Akers and Eva (Mills) Qualkinbush. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, then moved to Rockford. He worked as an electrician for IWT, and was the proprietor of Jacks CB Sales of Machesney Park for over 20 years. Jack followed his dream and moved to the country (Dakota, IL.) to become a hobby farmer and worked for Berner Foods. After retiring he spent his time enjoying his children and grandchildren.
Survived by sons, Jack L., Jason , Travis , Chris and Ricky ; daughters, Kristy, Eva ,Michelle; sister, Darlene ; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his father, mother, and step-father, Leon Qualkinbush and brothers, Lannie and Bobby Jean.
Burial to follow at Floral Lawns Cemetery in South Beloit.
