Reverend Monsignor Michael Joseph Adams, a Roman Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Corpus Christi, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Monsignor Adams had been failing in health for some time. He was born August 22, 1920, in Bratis, Slovakia of John Adams and Anna Mitrik.

Monsignor Adams was ordained to the holy priesthood on May 30, 1946, by Most Reverend Emmanuel B. Ledvina, Bishop of Corpus Christi.

Monsignor's assignments were as Parochial Vicar of the Corpus Christi Cathedral and St. Peter's in Laredo. He was Pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea and was the founding Pastor of St. Pius X here in Corpus Christi. On August 21, 1956, he was honored as Papal Chamberlain with the title Monsignor by Pope Pius XII and on May 6, 1960, His Holiness Pope John XXIII honored Monsignor Adams with the title of Domestic Prelate. Throughout the years, he held several diocesan positions including Diocesan Director of CCD, Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities, Diocesan Director of the Apostleship of the Sea, Diocesan Director of Relief Agencies, Director of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Men, and Assistant Director for the Bishop's Committee for the Spanish-speaking.

Monsignor Adams is preceded in death by his brother, John M. Adams, Jr. His survivors are his sister, Mary Ann Adams, his brother, Albert B. Adams (Marian) and his sister-in-Iaw Cecilia "Buzzie" Adams as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation was held Oct. 27 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home. A rosary was recited that evening at St. Pius X Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Pius X Church, oct. 28. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery, Corpus Christi.

May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
