Jesse Denney was born June 14, 1877 to Reuben D. and Betty Elizabeth (Dunn) Denney. He later met and married Lilly Jane Henderson on Oct. 2, 1899. They were blessed with 12 surviving children, having lost one son shortly after birth. He passed away from an acute heart attack Sept. 8, 1947 at his residence in Athens. He was followed in death by his wife 6 months later.
