Private, 1st Class, Company A, 341st Regiment, 86th Division, Son of Mr and Mrs Fred Abel; born November 28, 1890 near Elgin, IL. Entered service June 24, 1918, at Galesburg; to Camp Grant; made First Class Private September 15, 1918; discharged January 24, 1919.

Henry O Abel, 64, died Wednesday at 1:40 PM at his home, 106 N Jefferson St, Abingdon. Mr Abel had been in ill health for several months but seriously ill for two weeks. Funeral services will be at First Congregational Church, Abingdon, where he has been a member since 1917, at 2PM Saturday afternoon.
The military service and graveside services will be conducted by the Harry E Wiles American Legion Post. Officiant will be the Rev Ralphe A Harris. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Friends may call at the Huggins Funeral Home until Saturday at 1:30 o'clock.
Mr Abel was born November 28, 1890 near Elgin and as a child moved to St James, MN, where he grew to manhood. September 16, 1919, he married Florence May Bennet in the First Congregational Church, Abingdon. Mr Abel has been an active church member and at the time of his death was president of the Board of Deacons. He also served as secretary-treasurer of the Sunday School. Mr Abel, and World War I veteran, was a charter member of the Harry E Wiles American Legion Post in Abingdon.
Mr Abel was employed at Rowe Manufacturing Co for 18 years and for the last two years was sexton of the Abingdon Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Mrs Norma Pierce, Robert H Abel and Mrs Marilyn Rookaird, all of Abingdon, and Linda Carol at home; three brothers, William J Abel of Hoffman, MN, Fred Abel of St James, MN, and John Abel of Abingdon; a sister, Mrs Selma Dexheimer also of St James, and nieces and nephews. Thirteen brothers and sisters and his parents preceded him in death.

ABINGDON - Funeral services for Henry O Abel, 64, of 106 N Jefferson St, who died Wednesday, were held Saturday at 2:30 PM in the Abingdon Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ralphe A Harris, pastor, officiating.
Organ selections were played by Donald Stephen.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Cutler, Dan Draper, James Wynkoop, Ford Whipple, Walter Burlington and Frank Stewart.
Active pallbearers were the following members of the Harry Wiles Post, American Legion: Jess Penn, Ralph Niles, William Potts, Joe Howard, Thomas Draper and Tony Faralli.
The post's ceremonial squad accorded military honors at the graveside in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Participants were Omer Shaw, commander; walter Howard, chaplain; Wayne Reynolds and William Stivers, color bearers; Russell Hendricks and Richard Andrews, color guards, and MT Johnson, Harold Knott, Dan Draper and Carroll Butterfield, firing squad.
